Matcha green tea butter is made from the micro-fine powder of the Camellia sinensis plant (Green tea). The leaves are dried and then ground into a powder. It is then blended with sweet almond oil.
It is highly valued for use in cosmetics and personal hygiene products owing to its high content of polyphenols, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and xanthines.
Green tea can protect the skin against ageing and serious damage caused by the sun’s UVB rays.
The xanthines in matcha, such as caffeine and theobromine, have natural anti-inflammatory, anti-cellulite and anti-irritation properties.
EGCG is an antioxidant that is 20 times stronger than tocopherol and more than 65 times stronger in antioxidant properties than the average fruit or vegetable, and is also a free radical scavenger.
